| Project Company: |
Lucas Marine |
| Problem: |
The project included driving eight 1" wall casings - 72" diameter, 97' long - within one foot of the existing structure. to further complicate matters, CALTRANS specifications required the pipe be driven by impact hammer only. The problem was delivering the high energy required to drive the pile without damaging the pile. An I.C.E. Model 205S single -acting dieserl hammer with 20,000 lb ram would drive the pile with no problem but a special driving system had to be designed to get the energy into the pile without damaging it. |
| The Solution: |
John Lucas of Lucas Marine and I.C.E., developed a driving system that supported the top of the casing for 20', maintaining pile integrity during driving using the I.C.E. 205S |
| The Result: |
The driving system worked with no problems |
| What the Client Says |
"This was our first job as part of the State retrofit program, and we anticipated problems. The I.C.E. hammer and drive system endured the hard driving, and we were happy with the job when it was finished." |
