Daly City Project
| Project Company | Hayward-Baker, Inc. |
| Problem | The project required the installation of 2,000 stone columns (approximately 64,500 feet) to support an eight stroy office complex and a seven story parking garage. The site had to densify the sands so they wouldn't settle during an earthquake. Daly City had been hit with 3 major earthquakes since 1900. |
| Solution | The I.C.E. Model 3030 Mast system with an I.C.E. 35 AT auger pre-drilled 24" holes, 30-60 feet deep (twice the original specifications) to solve the problem. |
| Results | They installed the stone columns to a depth of 30-60 feet because they encountered a fair amount of rubble and chunks of concrete in the upper 15-25 feet. Hayward-Baker pre-drilled below the obstruction to treat the ground with compaction grouting. |
| What the Client Says |
"We leased the ICE equipment because we recognize the need for pre-drilling up front, not only on this job but other jobs where we need to boost efficiency. The equipment held up good in a difficult situation and we are very pleased with ICE's response and cooperation in helping us get through the problems we had." |
