20-Years with ICE®

-Scott Crews-

20-Years with ICE® Scott Crews is celebrating 20-years with International Construction Equipment®! Beginning in April of 2002, Scott joined ICE® as a salesman of a line of drills offered by ICE. Scott remembers when he started working with the team there were three individuals at ICE that their sole focus was our drilling products. The team has since expanded under Scott's leadership. And like all ICE product lines they started with service, later advancing to rentals and sales. Our team is known to have a very hands on service approach since our very existence in 1974. Preventative care is key to all client success.

As the Drilling Division Director, Crews now oversees additional sales team and service to ensure that ICE client's have the tools necessary to get the job done on-time. Crews explains that he enjoys working with our clients formulating solutions for the most complex situations. Working in harmony with his team, he has seen the drilling department expand and offer a vast amount of drilling rigs in our rental fleet.

Scott Crews and his loving wife of 32 years live in NC. Crews is proud to be a leader of the drilling division of ICE®. We are glad to have Scott Crews as part of the ICE® family.

Drainage Dunce Clamp: For the smallest pipe driving

Editor: Debbie Reaney

Proper drainage is key to negating flooding and damage to residents and communities that abut the Hudson River. Jersey City, NJ is a city that is focused on creating a system to move excess storm-water back into the river. After the effects of Hurricane Sandy, the whole New York and New Jersey region are working on projects to not only drain water, but to also generate a safe location during any future intense weather systems.

JF Creamer was sub-contracted to place an outfall system with cofferdam near the Washington Street Pier in Jersey City, NJ. The project called for 11-inch diameter caisson pipe piles to be installed. With such small piles, the customer needed an inventive solution for driving these piles efficiently. Calling on the creative professionals at ICE®, JF Creamer was able to utilize a new piece of equipment that ICE® has engineered and manufactured.

The ICE® 99 Dunce Clamp was designed with small pipe piles in mind. For this application, the clamp was attached to the ICE® 22 Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor. While a set of caisson clamps on a beam were required in the past, this dunce clamp set up allows for only one clamp to grab the small pile. This clamp offers a rounded jaw system, producing better clamping pressure when lifting and driving pipe piles smaller than 18" inch in diameter.

JF Creamer was able to drive these piles to grade while overlooking the beautiful Manhattan Skyline, thanks to the innovativeness of ICE®'s forward thinking. ICE® strives to offer inspired solutions for any foundation project, and no job is too large or small!

Rosethorne Tidal Project: Protecting the Louisiana Coastline

Editor: Debbie Reaney

When Hurricane Ida made landfall in the state of Louisiana in 2021, it brought with it torrential rains and unexpected flooding. The areas in Jefferson Parrish saw 11-foot storm surges during the massive storm system that devastated many homes and businesses. The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, along with the help of the Louisiana Transportation Department, plan to install 29 miles of levees, flood-walls, and gated structures at an overall cost of more than $300 million to keep residents and business owners safe in the future.

The Rosethorne Tidal Project is just one of the many undertakings that is a part of this larger project to safeguard the community. Phase one will focus on the installation of flood-walls at 7.5 feet above sea level. Upon completion, the Rosethorne project will provide additional protection from a 10-year rainfall or tidal event flood for the community of Rosethorne. The $34 million project is the second of 10 high-priority flood risk reduction projects planned for the greater Lafitte area of Jefferson Parish.

Circle Construction, out of Belle Chasse, has been awarded the contract. When it came time to select the equipment to install the sheet piles safely and efficiently, the experts at Circle knew they would need an excavator mounted piece of equipment, due to muddy terrain and because much of the work would be completed in the backyards of the community the flood-wall was created to protect.

ICE® supplied a 7E Excavator-mounted pile driver and extractor. This piece of equipment is uniquely suited for jobs in the wet conditions of the bayous, especially where placing large swaths of crane mats is undesirable. With 57 tons of driving force, the ICE® 7E effortlessly placed sheet piles with full mobility to enable the continuation of construction in the rough/muddy terrain.

Thanks to the Rosethorne Tidal Project, 10,300 linear feet of flood-walls and floodgates will be placed to protect the vital community in Jean Lafitte, LA from the devastating effects of more storm surges that may head their way. As these large-scale coastal protection projects continue, ICE® will be there with dynamic equipment specialized for each job to protect our communities and businesses!

ICE® I-125 Driving Against the Current

ICE® I-125 Driving Against the Current

Editor: Debbie Reaney

Recently, the Buckeye, LLP Terminal in Jacksonville, FL expanded their docking locations to facilitate the movement of more cargo. This terminal is primarily used for liquid petroleum products, which are in high demand as the spring and summer travel seasons approach. The overall project purpose was to make changes to the existing dock to improve the mooring for oil carrier vessels. The dock improvements support operations at the Buckeye Terminal oil import/export facility located on the adjoining upland parcel.

The Orion Marine Group was contracted to place 3 new dolphins. Two new mooring dolphins that will allow ships to dock and unload without having to pull up to the port directly, and one new breasting dolphin that will help keep ships sheltered from collisions. The dolphins were all created using an ICE® I-125 diesel pile driver, which was able to successfully drive 66" diameter caissons, up to 120 ft in length. By utilizing the strength of the ICE® I-125, the customer was able to drive piles to grade without the need to swap out equipment. This saved the crew time and enabled them to contend with heavy ship traffic and strong currents on the waterway more easily.

Thank you to the Orion Marine Group for choosing ICE®'s dependable equipment to safely and efficiently complete your project, as well as enabling us to help you build upon your reputation for customer excellence.  Our ICE® team looks forward to supporting you again in the future.
