Throughout the years the Camden waterfront has seen many seasons of change, but few as meaningful as the work completed there just recently. For more than a century, Campbell Soup Company has anchored its operations in Camden, New Jersey, and the warehouse district along the shoreline has long been a hub of steady movement. These buildings were added during the company's twentieth century expansion, replacing the original nineteenth century structures and supporting generations of workers who kept the iconic brand moving. Over time, the low deck that bordered the waterfront began to show its age. What had once been a reliable working platform was now a failing structure that posed risks to both safety and daily operations. 

By the time engineers assessed the site, it was clear that the shoreline needed immediate attention. Urgency shaped every decision, as this was not a project that could wait. The deck supported active warehouse operations, and the surrounding community depended on the uninterrupted flow of goods. Restoring the shoreline meant protecting a vital part of Camden's industrial landscape and ensuring that the area remained safe for the people who worked there every day. 

Commerce Construction stepped into the project with confidence and clarity. The company has been a trusted name in marine and deep foundation work since 1996, supported by a heritage of waterfront builders whose experience stretches back generations. Their crews are known throughout the mid-Atlantic for handling complex marine environments with precision, and their leadership remains closely involved in field operations to ensure every project meets the highest standards. The solution called for a new 750' (ft) steel sheet pile bulkhead supported by steel HP A frame structures. To meet the tight schedule and ensure consistent production, Commerce relied on an ICE® 110 vibratory driver extractor, rented from International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®). This powerful machine provided the power needed to drive each steel sheet pile with accuracy, even in the narrow working corridor beside the active warehouses. The 110's steady force performed as expected and was fully supported by Hydrauli- flex™ hoses that delivered smooth energy transfer and reduced strain on the system. This setup allowed the crew to maintain momentum day after day, easily achieving the depth and alignment required for a bulkhead of this scale. 

As the final sheets were driven and the new wall took shape, the transformation became immediately visible. What had been a failing shoreline only months earlier now stands reinforced and ready for decades of service. Commerce completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget, a result that reflected their discipline and their commitment to the community they were serving. 

Thanks to Commerce's expert crews the deck is safe again, and Campbell Soup Company leadership has expressed genuine appreciation for the care taken to protect their facilities and keep operations moving throughout construction. Recently, a waterfront condominium community in Aventura, FL faced a growing challenge: aging shoreline infrastructure that could no longer provide reliable protection against tidal forces, vessel wake, and long‑term coastal erosion. With property value, resident safety, and environmental resilience on the line, the community needed a contractor capable of delivering a modern, durable, and technically sound seawall system. 

Shoreline Foundations was selected for the project because of its proven track record in complex marine construction, its reputation for precision in tight urban waterfronts, and its ability to manage large‑scale shoreline stabilization projects from design support through final installation. Their expertise made them the clear choice for a community seeking long‑term reliability rather than short‑term fixes. 

The project, completed in early 2026, features approximately 1,100 linear feet of new steel sheet pile seawall, engineered to provide decades of structural integrity. To strengthen the system, Shoreline Foundations installed concrete king piles and batter piles, ensuring the wall could withstand both vertical and lateral loads common in South Florida's dynamic coastal environment. 

To achieve the required installation accuracy and efficiency, the Shoreline team selected an ICE® 28C vibratory hammer, known for its power, reliability, and ability to drive sheet piles quickly even in challenging soil conditions. The equipment was paired with a Hydrauli‑Flex™ hydraulic hose, chosen for its durability, flexibility, and resistance to abrasion, all critical qualities when working in marine environments where equipment must perform flawlessly under constant movement and exposure. 

Together, the equipment and installation strategy allowed Shoreline Foundations to complete the project with minimal disruption to residents while ensuring the new seawall met the highest standards of performance and longevity.

The expansion of N.C. 211 is a vital lifeline for one of the fastest-growing regions in North Carolina. Stretching 7.2 miles between Southport and St. James, this $216 million NCDOT project is transforming a heavily congested two-lane road into a four-lane divided highway. Beyond just easing the daily commute for residents, this corridor serves as a critical hurricane evacuation route for Brunswick County's coastal communities. The project is rich with logistical complexity, requiring the construction of seven new bridges to traverse the delicate marshlands and waterways that define the Cape Fear landscape. As of winter-2025, the project has surpassed the 50% completion mark, with crews working day and night to meet a final completion date in late 2027. 

Caton Construction Group was selected as a key subcontractor to spearhead the bridge construction, bringing a reputation for handling high-stakes structural projects across the Mid-Atlantic. Known for their "Safety First, Quality Always" mantra, Caton has a long history of successfully navigating the environmental sensitivities and technical demands of coastal bridge building. Their expertise is particularly evident in their ability to manage large-scale deep foundation work while maintaining strict production schedules. The company's deep bench of experienced operators and engineers makes them a premier fit for a project where the stability of seven different bridges rests on the precision of the foundation installation. 

To tackle the challenging coastal soils, Caton deployed a specialized equipment package from International Construction Equipment (ICE®). The team utilized an ICE® 66C Vibratory Hammer to efficiently seat large-diameter steel pipe piles through the initial sandy layers. Just like all ICE® vibratory hammers, this powerful piece of equipment was equipped with Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses, which were selected for their superior durability and resistance to the high-pressure demands of the 66C's hydraulic system. Once the piles reached the denser strata, Caton then switched to an ICE® D-30 Diesel Impact Hammer to drive the pipes to their final design depth. This dual-hammer approach, rented from ICE® to ensure peak performance and local support, allowed the crew to maintain high production rates while meeting the rigorous load-bearing standards required for the new bridge at Dutchman Creek and beyond. 

The successful progress of the N.C. 211 widening project is a testament to the hard work of the Caton Construction Group teams, who are often working under the cover of night to keep Brunswick County moving. The Pioneer Trail Road Expansion and new I‑95 interchange in Port Orange, Florida, represents one of the region's most significant infrastructure upgrades in decades. Designed to relieve congestion on Dunlawton Avenue and SR‑44 while improving hurricane evacuation capacity, the project is part of a broader $75 million Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) investment to support rapid residential growth and strengthen mobility between Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach. Once complete, the widened roadway and new interchange will provide safer, more efficient travel for thousands of daily commuters and serve as a critical link during storm events.  

With construction underway along the corridor bordered by environmentally sensitive areas, the foundation work must be executed with precision and reliability. By replacing the aging overpass with a full partial-cloverleaf interchange and widening Pioneer Trail to four lanes, the project addresses years of congestion at nearby Dunlawton Avenue. The location holds unique significance as it serves as a primary gateway to both the coastal communities and the expanding western residential corridors. This three-year transformation, slated for completion in early 2028, isn't just about asphalt; it's a vital infrastructure upgrade that includes a new roundabout at Turnbull Bay Road and enhanced pedestrian paths to bridge the gap between Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach. 

Southland Construction, a long‑established leader in Florida's heavy civil and transportation sector, was selected for this phase of the project due to their deep experience with FDOT roadway, bridge, and interchange builds. Known for their ability to manage complex earthwork and structural operations, Southland brings a reputation for quality workmanship and disciplined project execution. Their crews are well‑versed in the unique geotechnical challenges of Central Florida, making them an ideal partner for a project that demands both technical expertise and strict adherence to environmental and safety standards. 

To conquer the challenging Florida terrain and support the installation of 24" concrete piles for the new roadway structures specifications of this job, Southland deployed a powerful duo of equipment from International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®): an ICE® I-62v2 Diesel Impact Hammer and an ICE® HS-50 Top Drive Auger. This combination is specifically suited for Florida's mixed soil profiles, where pre-auger techniques are essential to minimize pile stress. The HS-50, equipped with Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses for maximum pressure durability, was used to pre-drill through dense soils. This reduced driving resistance and ensured each pile could be seated efficiently to the required depth. Once pre-drilling was complete, the I-62 delivered the consistent driving energy needed to set the concrete piles with total control. This synchronized approach allowed the equipment to perform smoothly on site, supporting Southland's aggressive production schedule and maintaining the high standards expected on an FDOT project of this scale. 

Progress along the Pioneer Trail corridor is already reshaping the future of Port Orange, and each successfully driven pile brings the project closer to delivering the safer, more resilient roadway the region has long needed. Southland's steady coordination and the dependable performance of the ICE® I‑62v2 and ICE® HS‑50 have helped maintain strong production on a complex FDOT build. In the heart of Haverhill, Massachusetts, progress is underway on a key infrastructure project designed to strengthen regional connectivity and support long‑term transportation needs. The construction of a new bridge foundation is not just a local upgrade; it's a meaningful investment in safety, mobility, and resilience for the surrounding communities. With aging infrastructure across New England under pressure, this effort plays a critical role in enhancing daily commutes and future‑proofing the corridor. 

The story unfolding in Haverhill is one of renewal and resilience. After completing the first phase of I‑495 bridge replacements in 2022, SPS New England returned in 2025 to tackle the next set of aging spans. This second phase includes replacing both the northbound and southbound bridges over the Merrimack River, as well as the Ward Hill Connector bridges over I‑495; structures that carry tens of thousands of vehicles each day and serve as a vital freight route for the region. Construction began in summer 2025, and the site is now alive with demolition, pile driving, and foundation work as crews lay the groundwork for a more reliable and resilient transportation corridor. 

At the forefront of this effort is SPS New England, a trusted name in bridge and highway construction across the region. Known for its expertise in managing complex marine and highway environments, SPS brings decades of experience in design‑build delivery, accelerated bridge construction, and deep foundation work. Their ability to coordinate marine access, traffic management, and structural sequencing makes them uniquely equipped to handle a project of this scale and sensitivity. 

A major component of the work involves building temporary trestles to access the Merrimack River, followed by the installation of steel H‑piles and pipe piles that will support the new spans. Pile driving is a critical step; one that demands precision, power, and adaptability. Steel piles must be driven deep into the riverbed to anchor the new structures, ensuring they can withstand heavy traffic loads, shifting soil conditions, and environmental challenges for decades to come. 

To meet these demands, SPS has deployed a strategic combination of ICE® equipment tailored to the site's variable subsurface conditions. An ICE® 50B Vibratory Hammer is being used to rapidly and accurately set large‑diameter piles in softer soils, where speed and control are essential. When the driving conditions stiffen or deeper penetration is required, the ICE® D50 Diesel Hammer steps in, delivering the high‑impact energy needed to seat piles to their final depth and capacity. This seamless transition between vibratory and impact hammers minimizes downtime, improves installation accuracy, and ensures each pile is placed with confidence. 

Supporting this efficiency is the Hydrauli‑Flex™ hose system, integral to the vibratory setup. Its high‑performance hydraulic flow enables consistent, responsive operation; which is an important advantage when working in a dynamic marine environment where precision matters.

In the Mobile, Alabama area, a major infrastructure project is underway that showcases the strength and reliability of ICE® deep foundation equipment. As communities across the Southeast continue to expand and modernize their transportation and industrial networks, dependable foundation systems remain essential. On this project, crews are installing a combination of pipe piles and steel H piles to create a stable foundation capable of supporting long term structural performance. To achieve the required driving energy, the team is using an ICE® I-46 Diesel Impact Hammer. This hammer is known for its powerful stroke and dependable operation, making it an ideal choice for seating heavy piles to their final depth in dense or variable soils. 

Before impact driving begins, the piles are positioned and advanced using an ICE® 44E Vibratory Hammer powered by the ICE® 595 Power Unit. This pairing allows for smooth and efficient initial placement, especially in softer layers where control and responsiveness are essential. The vibratory system is supported by the Hydrauli-Flex™ hose which delivers consistent hydraulic flow and enhances the precision of the 44E during delicate positioning work. 

To maintain alignment and secure the piles during installation, the crew is utilizing an ICE® caisson beam with H bars in a 6.5' (ft) CB cast configuration fitted with two ICE® Model 105H Caisson Clamps. This clamping system is designed for use with the ICE® 44 series vibratory hammer and provides a clamping force of approximately 220 tons while weighing about 4450 lbs with the clamps installed. The combination of the caisson beam and 105H Caisson Clamps delivers a strong and reliable grip on each pile and supports precise positioning and consistent alignment which is essential for achieving uniform results across varying pile types. 

Together, these ICE® systems create a streamlined and highly effective workflow. Vibratory driving allows for rapid placement and early penetration. Impact driving provides the final energy needed for load bearing assurance. Precision clamping supports safe handling and accurate alignment.
