Brayman is Building the Future
March 27, 2025
The Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center is undergoing a significant expansion and modernization project, which includes the construction of an 11-story patient tower. This project is part of a $900 million investment aimed at transforming the delivery of care in northeastern Pennsylvania. With about 600,000 ft2 (about half the area of Chicago's Millennium Park) added, this expansion will nearly double the size of the medical center.
This expansion will enhance the medical center's capabilities, making it comparable to large academic medical centers in other major metropolitan areas. Expected to be completed in phases, the initial phase is slated for completion in 2028 with additional renovations continuing through 2030.
Brayman Construction is a well-known company specializing in heavy civil and geotechnical construction and has been selected as the contractor for this monumental task. Incorporated in 1947 and established in nearby Saxonburg, PA, as a family-owned business with a staff of two, Brayman has grown and evolved its construction services from a small bridge and concrete company to a large, nationally recognized provider of complex, heavy civil construction projects servicing both public and private sector clients.
Currently, Brayman is halfway through installing a support of excavation and deep foundation system for the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Patient Tower SOE. Their team is executing precision-driven solutions, including soil nailed shotcrete, soldier pile installation and drilled shafts. These techniques are being accomplished by Brayman experts, utilizing a Comacchio MC20A Articulated Drill Rig that they rented from International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®). The Comacchio MC20A is a versatile and powerful machine, known for its efficiency and reliability in challenging construction environments. Its advanced features allow Brayman's team to work with precision and speed, ensuring that the foundation of the new patient tower is both robust and durable.
The MC20A has benefited the project by streamlining the installation of excavation and deep foundation systems. Specifically, its articulated design and advanced drilling capabilities have enabled Brayman's experts to navigate the complex soil conditions with ease. The Brayman crew was especially pleased with the way the machine's precision has minimized disruptions to the surrounding area, ensuring that the medical center's operations continue smoothly during construction.
Workers from Brayman Construction and other subcontractors continue to collaborate to meet the ambitious project timeline, as the construction site buzzes with activity. Despite the challenges posed by the project's scale, the team has remained focused and motivated, driven by the knowledge that their work will have a lasting positive impact on the community.
As the project progresses, the medical center's staff and the local community eagerly anticipate the benefits that the expansion will bring. The new patient tower will house state-of-the-art medical facilities, including advanced surgical suites, specialized treatment centers, and spacious patient rooms designed to enhance comfort and privacy.
With the project's initial phase nearing completion, the medical center is beginning to prepare for the transition to the new facilities. Training programs are being developed to ensure that staff are well-equipped to utilize the modern technologies and systems that will soon be implemented; along with community outreach initiatives that are being planned to keep the public informed and engaged throughout the construction process.
Brayman Construction's choice of the Comacchio MC20A has been instrumental in the success of this project. The rig's precision and reliability have ensured that the foundation work is completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
ICE® remains committed to supplying top-quality deep foundation equipment, supporting projects like the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center expansion that make a significant impact on communities. Bravo, to the entire Brayman team!
The Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center's expansion is not just a construction project; it is a symbol of progress and hope for the future of healthcare in northeastern Pennsylvania. With each milestone reached, the vision of a modern, world-class medical facility comes closer to reality, promising to transform the lives of countless patients and their families for years to come.
