The Kansas City Levees project stands as one of the most significant flood‑protection upgrades in the region's history, a sweeping effort to safeguard more than 27,000 residents and billions in local infrastructure along the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. With a total program value of more than half a billion dollars and a final completion target in 2026, the work stretches across the Argentine, Armourdale, and Central Industrial District levee units. This particular phase, located near a heavily trafficked railroad bridge in Kansas City, Kansas, brings together the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the railroad in a coordinated push to raise and reinforce the levee system while keeping one of the area's busiest rail corridors moving. 

Epic Concrete Construction, a respected Kansas Citybased union contractor, was selected for this portion of the work due to its deep experience in structural and foundation concrete operations throughout the region. Known for its reliability and its long history of partnering on complex civil projects, Epic has been an active contributor to the levee program, including its involvement in major closure structures such as the UPRR CPK002 site. Their familiarity with the local terrain, their ability to work within tight logistical windows, and their proven coordination with both USACE and railroad teams made them an ideal fit for this demanding environment. 

To support the installation of deep foundations and sheet‑pile walls, Epic brought in a combination of ICE® equipment tailored to the job's unique challenges. Two ICE® 50B vibratory hammers were rented to efficiently drive the sheet‑pile walls that form part of the new flood‑protection system, while a diesel impact hammer is being used to drive 18‑inch H‑pile ranging from 50' - 60" (ft) in length. The vibratory hammers provide the speed and control needed in the narrow work windows dictated by active rail traffic, and the impact hammer delivers the consistent energy required for deep pile embedment. Hydrauli‑Flex™ hoses are used where appropriate with the vibratory systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation in the tight, high‑traffic jobsite. Field crews are documenting progress, including photos of the vibratory driving operations, as the work continues to advance.
