Overcoming the extremely dense clay soils and high driving resistance of the Calcasieu Ship Channel demanded a powerful tag team approach featuring premier deep foundation machinery from International Construction Equipment, Inc. The crew deployed a powerful ICE® 215 Vibratory Driver Extractor, powered by an ICE® 800TB Power Unit utilizing specialized Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses, to maintain flawless fluid dynamics and maximum amplitude while driving an extensive combi-wall system of massive king piles and interlocking sheet piles. Once the vibratory driver successfully sliced through the stubborn upper clay layers to seat the initial foundations, the team brought in the ICE® I-80v2 Diesel Hammer featuring a massive 17,640 lb ram weight to finish the job. This heavy impact giant delivered the raw energy needed to drive more than 900 precast concrete piles down to their precise design grade, ensuring an impenetrable subsurface barrier capable of supporting the massive weight of the new roll on roll off berth.
