Demolition is underway at the Montgomery Locks and Dam near Monaca, Pennsylvania, marking the beginning of a transformative $1.59 billion infrastructure project led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Originally constructed in the 1920s, the aging lock chamber is being replaced with a modern 110' x 600' (ft) primary lock chamber to accommodate larger vessels and improve navigation efficiency along the Ohio River. With completion expected by 2033, this massive undertaking will not only enhance commercial transportation but also support regional economic growth for decades to come.

The joint venture of Trumbull-Brayman was selected to lead this monumental effort, bringing together decades of experience in heavy civil construction and marine infrastructure. Chosen for their deep expertise in heavy civil and marine construction, Trumbull-Brayman JV brings a powerful combination of experience and innovation to the Montgomery Locks and Dam project. This joint venture has a strong track record of tackling complex infrastructure challenges, particularly in dam and lock systems. With a reputation built on precision, safety, and collaboration, the Trumbull-Brayman team is well-equipped to manage the scale and technical demands of this historic upgrade and highlights their crews' ability to coordinate seamlessly across disciplines; making them an ideal fit for a project of this magnitude.

International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) played a key role in the early stages of construction, supplying a rented Comacchio MC15P drill for a month to assist with support of excavation work, including the installation of micropiles. These micropiles are critical, as they will bear the weight of heavy batching equipment at the on-site concrete batch plant, which is expected to produce an impressive 400,000 cubic yards of concrete throughout the project. Additionally, ICE® serviced the contractor's own ICE® 44B Vibratory Hammer prior to its deployment on-site, ensuring peak performance for demanding pile-driving tasks, including assuring that the Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses were properly fitted and functioning to deliver consistent hydraulic power for driving sheet piles deep into the riverbank foundation.

As the Montgomery Locks and Dam project moves forward, the surrounding communities and river users can look forward to safer, more efficient navigation and long-term economic benefits. International Construction Equipment extends its sincere thanks to Trumbull-Brayman JV for their continued trust and partnership. With every pile driven and every foundation secured, Trumbull-Brayman JV is helping reshape the future of inland navigation, and ICE® is proud to be part of the story unfolding along the banks of the Ohio River. Amazing work to all involved!
