ICE® on the East River

The East River is one of New York City's most heavily trafficked waterways, supporting daily ferry commuters, tourism, and essential marine operations. When a section of a Manhattan ferry dock required urgent repair, the project became a priority for maintaining safe and reliable transit along this iconic corridor. Although the work was relatively short in duration; it was completed in just a few weeks; the repairs were essential to keeping ferry service running smoothly for thousands of riders who depend on it every day.

Reicon Group, a seasoned marine contractor based in Staten Island, NY, was selected to perform the work. Known for their deep experience in waterfront construction and pile‑driving operations throughout the region, Reicon has built a reputation for tackling complex marine challenges with precision and efficiency. Their familiarity with New York's waterways and their long history of successful marine infrastructure projects made them a natural fit for this fast‑moving repair effort.

To extract the aging pipe piles from the ferry dock, Reicon turned to International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) for additional equipment support. Although the company owns several pieces of ICE® machinery, all of their units were already deployed on other active jobs. For this project, they rented an ICE® 44 vibratory hammer paired with ICE® 105 clamps and an ICE ® caisson beam, an ideal configuration for pulling pipe piles in tight marine environments. The setup delivered the power and control needed to safely remove the piles while maintaining efficiency along the busy East River waterfront. The use of ICE®'s reliable equipment, supported by Hydrauli‑Flex™ hoses, ensured smooth operation throughout the duration of the job.

With the ferry dock now restored and back in service, both the community and ICE® extend their appreciation to Reicon Group for their commitment to keeping New York's marine infrastructure functioning at its best. Their ability to mobilize quickly and execute with precision helped minimize disruption for daily commuters and visitors alike. ICE® is proud to support Reicon's continued success and looks forward to partnering with them on future projects across the region.
