New Jersey's Route 78 Gets A New Look

Route 78 in Bedminister, NJ is receiving some new updates to help alleviate the increased volume of traffic that it has received over the last few years.  Route 78 is an east-west highway that runs from Harrisburg, PA all the way through the whole state of New Jersey ending at the Holland Tunnel.  I-78 accommodates over four million trucks annually, representing 24% of all truck traffic in the nation. It also is a major connection point to the New York metropolitan area's three major international airports, Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and LaGuardia Airport.

As part of the current infrastructure programs in the area, Interstate 78 will receive new wider and safer modernized bridges along the highway. Konkus Corp., a New Jersey-based construction firm with a solid level of expertise in the bridge and highway construction markets, has been overseeing the highway renovation. To assure that they were getting the right equipment for the job, the experts at Konkus reached out to their local International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) Sales Team. After a brief conversation, it was determined that for this portion of the project Konkus would utilize an ICE® 22D Vibratory Hammer Driver/Extractor to drive and pull some 30 & 40' (ft) steel sheets that will serve as the new foundation for several new bridges along I-78. The bridges that were previously serving these areas numerous commuters were outdated and needed to be widened to minimize the myriad of issues caused by rapid growth. Once completed, these new structures will both improve safety and commuters' traffic time.

Many people that travel into New York City for work depend on Interstate 78 to get to and from their jobs. Having a widened highway with new bridges decreases the number of accidents, traffic, and frustration that drivers would have to experience on an outdated route. Thanks to the hard work of the Konkus Corp. crew, the rehabilitation of this heavily traversed corridor will now give all New Jerseyans one less thing to worry about. Well-done, Konkus Corp! ICE® is happy to continue to provide the deep foundation equipment that our contractors can count on. Reach out to our Sales & Service Team to find out how we can assist you with your needs!
