A New Standard for Marine Safety

Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo is one of the most exclusive private communities in the world, and the infrastructure at 16 Gatehouse Road is vital to its maritime operations. Located in Key Largo, Florida, this project is a crucial upgrade to the area's shoreline, replacing aging dockage with a modern, resilient system designed to withstand the unique environmental pressures of the Florida Keys. Nestled along Dispatch Creek, this location serves as a primary access point for luxury vessels, making its structural integrity a top priority for the Club's long-term master plan. To modernize the aging infrastructure, the site is undergoing a complete reconstruction of its 48-foot side-to-slip dockage.

Black Diamond Construction, based in Orange Beach, Alabama, was selected for this project due to their vast expertise in marine engineering along the Gulf Coast. As a family-owned business, they have established themselves as a leader in "heavy-lift" marine jobs, from hurricane recovery in Alabama to sophisticated pier rebuilds in Florida. Their ability to self-perform complex demolition and installation phases while maintaining a rigorous safety record makes them the ideal fit for the high standards of the Ocean Reef community.

The heavy lifting on this site is powered by International Construction Equipment (ICE®), specifically the ICE® 216 Vibratory Hammer. Black Diamond selected the 216 for its ability to provide 47 tons of driving force while remaining compact enough to operate from smaller barges in the Dispatch Creek canal. The hammer is currently being used to drive steel sheet piling and timber piles to create the stable footprint required for the new floating dock system. To protect the surrounding marine sanctuary, the setup utilizes Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses on the vibratory hammer, ensuring leak-free performance and superior durability against the abrasive saltwater environment.

The residents of Ocean Reef and the broader Key Largo boating community are incredibly grateful for the dedication shown by the Black Diamond crews in fortifying this vital piece of the marina. By replacing outdated structures with modern, resilient floating docks, they are ensuring that 16 Gatehouse Road remains a safe harbor for decades to come. International Construction Equipment is honored to partner with Black Diamond on this project, providing the specialized hammers and hoses necessary to conquer the unique geological challenges of the Florida Keys. We thank the Black Diamond team for their precision and for once again trusting ICE® to help build the future of Florida's coastal infrastructure.
