Reinforcing Resilience
December 3, 2025
The wall was built using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) panels topped with a concrete cap, an innovative combination that delivers both lightweight durability and structural resilience. According to UESI's project manager, FRP's corrosion resistance and low-maintenance profile make it an ideal choice for utility infrastructure, especially in coastal environments where salt, humidity, and temperature fluctuations pose long-term challenges.
This design is particularly suited for electrical substations and other critical facilities, offering enhanced protection against environmental stressors and potential physical threats. As utilities nationwide seek more robust and sustainable solutions, FRP is emerging as a go-to material for modern security applications.
Executing this installation required not just the right materials, but also the right tools. Josh Lunsford, project manager at UESI, emphasized the importance of the ICE® Model 2 Vibratory Hammer in the success of the build. "It's the only hammer on the market that can free-hang while doing this delicate work," he noted. The Model 2's ability to free-hang was essential for maneuvering the FRP panels into place without compromising their integrity. A counter-weight system was also employed to ensure stability and precision throughout the installation. This feature was critical for maneuvering the FRP panels into place with minimal vibration transfer and maximum control. The ICE® Model 2 is also known for its compact footprint and high-frequency performance, making it ideal for sensitive environments where precision and reduced disturbance are paramount. To further support the operation, Hydrauli-Flex™ hoses, valued for their flexibility, durability, and resistance to abrasion ensured reliable hydraulic flow and minimized the risk of wear during the repetitive motion of panel installation.
UESI's involvement in this project reflects its deep expertise in energy sector infrastructure and its commitment to innovation. From underwater inspections to civil construction, UESI continues to lead with solutions that meet the evolving demands of utility providers. Their adoption of FRP materials aligns with a broader industry trend toward corrosion-resistant, low-maintenance systems that support long-term reliability and security.
The completion of the security wall has been met with appreciation from the Vero Beach community, who recognize the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure in their region. Projects like this not only enhance operational resilience but also reinforce public confidence in the reliability of essential services. International Construction Equipment (ICE®) extends its sincere thanks to UESI for their continued trust in ICE® deep foundation equipment. Their belief in the precision and performance of the ICE® Model 2 Vibratory Hammer exemplifies the kind of partnership that drives innovation and excellence in the field.
