The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the nation's most visited and scenic national parks. The park runs for 469 miles through 29 counties in Virginia and North Carolina providing memorable views of the Appalachian Mountains. There are also numerous parking areas at trailheads for the various hiking trails that intersect the parkway, and several campgrounds located along the parkway allow for overnight stays. Certain sections of the park are closed in the winter due to inclement weather making tunnels and bridges impassable and therefore closed from late fall through early spring. In result to this, road maintenance is highly needed when warmer temperatures occur.  

Recently, general contractor, Kovolic Construction Company, who was awarded this job, has chosen GeoStabilization International (GSI) as the subcontractor to replace three bridges along the parkway in North Carolina. The experts at GSI specialize in emergency landslide repairs, rockfall mitigation, and foundations using design/build and design/build/warranty contracting; making it was no surprise that they wisely chose International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) to supply them with the equipment needed to complete this bridge construction. They have been using a Comacchio MC 4D drill to install 7-inch micro piles in a cofferdam as well as a Comacchio MC-15P to create a dry and safe working environment for bridge construction to occur.  

Once the bridges are repaired, they will be accessible to the public, allowing for exploration and access to the breathtaking views that the Appalachian Mountains have to offer. This National Park is a must visit for anyone who loves the outdoors or simply just wants to enjoy a scenic drive.
