A Test Pile with Big Potential

In Wilmington, Delaware, Walsh Construction recently completed a short but significant test pile installation that could mark the beginning of larger development in the area. While the long-term plans for the site remain uncertain, rumors suggest a possible container loading facility; the test pile represents an important first step in evaluating soil and ground conditions for future construction. Even a brief project like this carries weight, as it helps shape the groundwork for potential infrastructure that could benefit the local economy and community.

For this venture, Walsh Construction brought their seasoned crew and expertise to the job, ensuring the test pile was handled with precision and efficiency. Known for tackling complex projects across the country, Walsh's team demonstrated their ability to adapt quickly to site-specific conditions. Their professionalism and skill ensured that the pile driving process was smooth, safe, and completed within the tight timeframe of just a few days.

At the heart of the operation was an ICE® 44 Vibratory Hammer, rented from International Construction Equipment (ICE®) for just one week. This powerful hammer easily handled the casing; a 36-inch diameter pile with a 0.75-inch wall thickness and 45-foot length that was later spliced with two additional sections. As expected, the equipment drove the pile effortlessly, with the vibratory process proving uneventful and highly effective. Supporting components like the Hydrauli-Flex™ hose used on this machine added reliability, but the star of the show was the ICE® 44 itself, showcasing the strength and dependability deep foundation contractors have come to expect. During this assessment, Walsh also tested the pile further with an impact hammer, confirming the installation's success. Thanks to ICE®'s rental and service team, the operation ran seamlessly, with outstanding customer support that ensured the Walsh crew had everything required to complete the job successfully.

Though brief, this project highlights the importance of collaboration between contractors and equipment providers. ICE® extends its sincere gratitude to Walsh Construction for their trust and partnership, and the local community benefits from the dedicated groundwork being laid for potential future development. Whether the site evolves into a container facility or another major project, this test pile stands as a small but meaningful step toward progress in Wilmington. Excellent work, to the entire Walsh Construction team!
